THE WALL STEPS DOWN FROM CAPTAINCY

Resignation of Dravid from the post of Indian team captaincy has shocked the cricketing world. Just now India had scripted a test series win in England after 21 years, under his captaincy.

What prompted Dravid to make this decision?
1. Is it lack of support from his fellow teammates? Zaheer Khan contradicted Rahul’s statement on Oval test follow-on episode. There is a rumor mill going on for while that Sachin and Sourav have ganged up against him.
2. Is it unnecessary media pressure? Some media like TIMES NOW television is constantly broadcasting ill and untrue news about him and in the process undeservedly glorifying one particular player.
3. Is it Board politics and the system?
4. Is it because he felt captaincy is affecting his batting (which is the officially stated reason)?

Only he can give the true reason behind his decision. Otherwise various rumors would be floating around. When Dravid was criticized for each and every thing I felt he better resign his job. And also thought that this Indian team don’t deserve him as its captain. But in this period of transition he is the best person to lead Team India. Dhoni and Yuvraj have not cemented their places in Test cricket yet. Sachin is always frequented with injury for last few years. Giving back captaincy to Ganguly would be bad omen for Team India. For any ordinary player in this kind of pressure the decision made may be a good one. But he is a great player both as a batsman and a visionary. So, in my opinion it is not a great decision. Anyway nobody is bigger than the game. The game will move on. As he had said, he would continue to contribute Team India as a batsman and senior player.
