Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been appointed as skipper of Indian ODI team today. It is a natural graduation from vice-captaincy.
I, personally, would have loved Yuvraj Singh to be appointed as the captain. But Yuvraj himself is to be blamed for that. He has not cemented his place in Test team. He has got many opportunities (especially in West Indies, there is no Sachin & Sourav on that tour) but he failed to capitalize on it. But it is not easy to compete with big four. As Greg Chappell once said, by now he must have topped both Test and One-day batting charts with his talent.
Dhoni truly earned his elevation as captain of Indian team. His batting may be unconventional and his wicket-keeping skills may not be that great, still he has a kind of stuff which makes him worthy of this coveted job. Dhoni must be given full freedom in team selection and strategizing. No sort of interference from board or selectors. He must be given fair run.
Let us whole-heartedly welcome and support Dhoni!
