WHY WE BADLY NEED TO WIN THIS WORLD CUP?

Reason 4: To prove Mr. Malcom Speed wrong
During recently concluded ICC Championship trophy Mr. Malcom Speed made some nasty comments about Indian Cricket during his face-off with Mr. Lalit Modi. He said that India with huge population and financial resources (read BCCI’s money) has not won any major tournament apart from winning 1983 world cup. Indian team must win this world cup and scoff at likes of Mr. Speed.

Reason 3: To prove Mr. Ricky Ponting wrong
Australian captain Ricky Ponting responding to Sunil Gavaskar’s comment made some humiliating remarks about Indian team performance. Ponting may be partly correct in his observations but not in good taste. Indian team must give a fitting reply to Ponting and his men by lifting this world cup.

Reason 2: Sachin, Dravid, Ganguly & Kumble deserves to be part of a World Cup winning team
Just see the list of great players who were part of a world cup winning team: Richards, Lloyd, Kapil, Gavaskar, Steve Waugh, Dean Jones, Allan Border, Imran Khan, Miandad, Inzamam, Akram, Jayasuriya, Muralidharan, Aravinda De Silva, Arjuna Ranatunga, Shane Warne, McGrath, Ricky Ponting and many others. Notable absentees in that list would be Chappell brothers, Botham, Donald and Crowe. Among current crop of players Sachin, Lara, Dravid, Ganguly, Kumble and Pollock are never part of a world cup winning team. More than other teams, we, Indian team has more deserving players in its ranks. Atleast for these guys we want to win this world cup.

Reason 1: To fulfill the prayers & hope of billion people
Last time we won a Hockey world cup –1975.
Last time we won a gold medal in Olympics – 1980 Moscow Olympics.
Last time we won a major cricketing tournament – 1985 Benson & Hedges World series championship (Forget few Asian cup titles, Hero cup in 1993 and Joint winning of ICC Champions trophy in 2002).
Only Leander, Bhupathi, Vishwanathan Anand and Pankaj Advani gave India some moments to cheer in recent times.
One does not forget the efforts of Major Rathore or Malleswari but they are only runners-up.So Indian public is yearning for a champion stuff from any of its sports team for very long years.
Indian cricket team has all the ingredients to become a champion; it only needs to execute its passion and potential. This world cup tournament is a nice opportunity to fulfill the desires of our people. Dravid’s Devils! Stage is yours. Lift the cup! You have prayers of billion people!
