BRIAN CHARLES LARA – THE REAL GENIUS

He is arguably the best batsman to play cricket after Sir Don Bradman and Sir Vivian Richards. On Saturday we are going to witness his last stay at the crease in any form of cricket. It is sad that he is not retiring with glory. For most part of his career he had to play with a mediocre team. Still he came up with not one but many brilliant innings to win matches for his team single-handedly. That is his genius.

BEST BATSMAN OF HIS ERA
In my opinion he is the best batsman of this era (
1991-2007). He can play likes of both Warne and McGrath very well. He can dance down the wicket to hit Murali over mid-wicket and can hook Allan Donald delivery over deep square leg. He has the ability to dominate any bowlers, can single-handedly win a match for his team, and is greatest entertainer. Only thing lacking in him is consistency, which Sachin had. The greatest thing about this great player is his ability to bounce back from his failures. This is evident from the way he continuously able to play great innings whenever he was written off. His batting genius had attained both dizzy heights and abysmal lows. Whoever it be Ricky Ponting or Sachin or Dravid, they are only second best to Lara.

HIS CAPTAINCY
His first two stints, as captain of the West Indies team, was a complete failure. But his third term as captain gave some hope of Caribbean revival. Infact West Indies was the winner of ICC Championship Trophy in 2004 and runner-up in 2006. But suddenly all went wrong in this world cup. Partly this failure is attributed to his bizarre team selection. He hasn’t handled Jerome Taylor and Bradshaw, the two pace bowling spearheads, very well.

HIS BEST MOMENTS
1.Maiden Test Century
vs Australia at Sydney, 1993
2.Breaking Sobers Record for Highest Test Score vs England in Antigua, 1994
3.Highest First Class Score vs Warwickshire v Durham, 1994
4.Steers his side to the semi-finals of 1996 World Cup with a fantastic century against South Africa
5.First Test Victory as Captain
vs India in Barbados, 1997
6.Second Best Test Innings in Cricket History vs Australia, Barbados, 1998-99
7.Regaining His Record for Highest Test Score & First to 400 April, 2004
8.Captaining West Indies to win ICC Championship Trophy at England in September, 2004

Hi,

This was reallly a nice one !!!!!!!!!!

I am a die hard fan of sachin, Still i agrre that brain lara is better than him or any body else. The reason i say this beacuse, Only lara has capability to stand alone and make good inings even when his team let him down. This has happened in many occasions. After the great Westindian players have gone, LARA was the only person who was holding the carribeab team.

HATS OFF TO THE GREAT MAN

yes lara is a maestro.. even though i am a fan of sachin and my heart says sachin(because i am indian) but my mind says lara..he is capable of playing lone hand and save the matches.. but there is hair line difference between sachin and lara.. both are best interns of consistency sachin is best in terms of individuality ie best innings lara is best.. both are ambassadors these both careers made me crazy in cricket and giving their full when they play.. But remember the words by lara to schin....'Sachin is genius i am a mere mortal'.......
cricket needs players like this players..but u dont often get them.
