INDIA EMERGES VICTORIOUS AT NOTTINGHAM

India wins the second test at Trent Bridge. It is India’s 5th test victory against England in England. It is a good all-round display by the Indians.

GOOD PERFORMANCE BY SEAMERS
India won a good toss and used the conditions perfectly in the first innings. Seamers were not wayward unlike in the first test at Lord’s. They bowled beautifully with discipline. And Kumble finished the tail in his usual way. Indian bowlers, especially Zaheer, did well to dismiss the English batsmen below 200.

GOOD OPENING STAND
Indian openers applied themselves and put on a good century partnership and in the process laid a good foundation. The entire Indian middle order came good. Indian team had more than couple of good partnerships. In the course of his innings, Sachin crossed personal
milestone of 11,000 runs.

ZAHEER’S SPELL AND VAUGHAN’S CENTURY
In the second innings English batsmen played well. Michael Vaughan came up with a good century. He was ably supported by Strauss and Collingwood. After the dismissal of Vaughan England team derailed and lost their way. Only in my previous article I had mentioned that Zaheer had not produced any spell of importance. But he proved me wrong. He produced match-winning spell of five wickets in the second innings when English batsmen appeared to take their team to safety. The match haul of 9/134 is the best in his career. There must be a special mention about RP Singh. He nailed Pietersen, England’s best batsman, in both the innings. He matched Zaheer’s performance.

INDIA WINS
Just needing 73 runs to win India started off well. But Chris Tremlett gave India some anxious moments by dismissing the openers and Sachin. Indians finally won this match by 7 wickets. Good thing about this victory is it is a complete teamwork. As Ian Chappell said Indians looked very determined in this match. Indian team is on a course for a historic series win provided they repeat this performance in the third and final test starting at the Oval from August 9.
