India, put into bat by Proteas, was bowled out for 159 in 45.4 overs. South African bowlers bowled brilliantly to restrict India to a modest total. Their skipper and all-rounder
Parnell was the pick of the bowlers. Tanmay Srivastava was the top scorer for India with 46 runs.

South Africa was struggling at 17 for 3 when the rain interrupted. After the rain break they were made to chase the revised target of 116 runs in 25 overs by Duckworth/Lewis method. Eventually they finished at 103 for 8 in 25 overs.

In 2000 India had won the under-19 World Cup held in Srilanka by beating the host team in the finals. Mohammed Kaif was the captain then. Yuvraj Singh was the chief architect of that victory.
Virat Kohli is the captain of this bunch of young World Champions. Dav Whatmore is the coach of this winning team, who had earlier coached Srilanka to the World Cup victory in 1996.
