IPL I EDITION – SO FAR

How the teams have fared so far?
Kolkatta Knight Riders

Strength: Well-balanced team. Along with Royal Challengers they have the best bowling attack. Ishant, Gul, Agarkar and Karthik provide good bowling options.
Weakness: Lack of Indian batting star. They have Cheteshwar Pujara and hopefully he will get chance to excel.
Chennai Super Kings
Strength: Batting. They have managed their resources well. Presence of gen next batting stars like Badrinath and Raina lends weight to the team. I hope Badrinath gets opportunity to bat higher in the batting order.
Weakness: Pace Bowling. Nitni’s arrival will add strength and experience to the bowling.
Bangalore Royal Challengers
Strength: Bowling. In Steyn, Zaheer and Kumble they have good bowling attack.
Weakness: Lack of Indian hitters. Though Rahul and Virat Kohli had a hand in win against Mumbai Indians, I feel they miss an Indian hitter. Rahul should not hesitate to drop Kallis if necessary and should include Misahbul Haq, Cameron White in the lineup.
Hyderabad Deccan Chargers
Strength: Batting. In Rohit Sharma they have Indian batting star. Afridi’s all-round ability is a bonus to them. The names of Gibbs, Symmonds, Afridi and Gilchrist will terrorize any opposition.
Weakness: Short of a quality bowler. Symmond’s bowling has cost Deccan Chargers in two games. He should have bowled his off-spinners instead of his medium pacers. Gilchrist has not fired so far and Laxman appears to be a misfit (I hope I am wrong). Their batting has not really fired.
Delhi Daredevils
Strength: Well-balanced team. In McGrath and Asif they have two pace bowlers bowling in corridor of uncertainty. Sehwag, Gambhir, Tiwary and Diwan form the core of batting.
Weakness: So far nothing. May be middle-order is not tested yet.
Mohali Kings XI Punjab
Strength: Well-balanced team. Like Delhi they are well-balanced. Yuvraj, Sangakkara, Jayawardene and Sarwan provides great batting cushion. Pathan, Sreesanth, VRV Singh and Brett Lee provide good pace bowling attack.
Weakness: Lack of Indian batting star. Though they are well-balanced they have not fired yet. It is better Sreesanth concentrate on his cricket rather than on antics. Apart from Yuvraj, they have no recognized Indian batting star.
Rajasthan Royals
Strength: Definitely Shane Warne. In Graeme Smith they have quality batsman. Yousuf Pathan and Shane Watson provide all-round abilities and big-hitting power.
Weakness: Lack of quality Indian players.
Mumbai Indians
Strength: Batting and all-rounders. In Sachin, Uthappa and Jayasuriya they have good batsmen. In Pollock, Jayasuriya and Nayar they have good all-rounders.
Weakness: Lack of pace bowling. Though they have Pollock they are short in pace bowling. Unavailability of Sachin has dampened their spirit and chances. Harbhajan’s ban for slapping Sreesanth will further weaken them.

Star of the IPL
Shane Warne is really the star of the IPL so far. He has inspired the inexperienced and unknown side into a winning unit.

The team which manages their resources well will manage to last long. As of now, Daredevils, Super kings, KingsXI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals have greater chances to reach the semi finals.
