Younis Khan and Salman Butt came good when it mattered the most. Their double century partnership had clinched the victory for their team in the finals of this Kitply tri-series. Pakistan beat India by 25 runs in the finals to win the cup.
SCORECARD: India vs Pakistan, Finals, Kitply Tri-series, Dhaka -2008
Solid Batting by Pakistan
Pakistan openers were solid in their approach. They avoided early loss of wickets. After the fall of the first wicket, Younis Khan joined Salman Butt and he gave momentum to the side. Salman who was struggling to stroke freely till then started to flourish after Younis’s arrival. For the first 20 overs their run rate was below 4. Overs 20 to 30 were the turning point of the match. They plundered Piyush Chawla and the part-timers in that period. Thereafter it is foregone conclusion that Pakistan will end up beyond 300.
This mauling from Pakistan batsmen must have been frustrating for young Piyush Chawla. He should take it as a good learning experience. I hope he will come back strongly in the next series.
India’s Chase
Despite early loss of Sehwag, Gambhir and Rohit Sharma batted positively. Most of the Indian batsmen got good starts but not able to play a big innings. In chasing huge scores a team needs a big score from any one of it players. But that was not the case here. Yuvraj’s dismissal signaled the end of India’s hope of a tile win here. Though Dhoni and Pathan are capable of coming good in tight situations, Dhoni’s batting these days does not inspire any hope among the supporters of Indian team.
