HISTORIC CHASE BY INDIANS AT CHENNAI

India scripted a memorable victory over England at Chepauk in Chennai. India successfully chased 387 runs in the fourth innings with six wickets in hand, which was fourth highest chase ever and best in Indian sub-continent.

SCORECARD: India vs England, 1st Test, Chennai, 2008

Blazing Sehwag
Sehwag’s knock set the match in favor of India. He along with Gambhir gave a great start to the innings. His quick fire knock ensured that India was required to make only 256 on the final with 9 wickets in hand. His knock gave the confidence to the team and reduced the deficit considerably. Only few days back India coach Garry Kirsten had stated that this Indian team can do anything, while responding to a question on its poor performance in the first innings. His words came true.

Composed Sachin & Determined Yuvi
This time around Sachin ensured that 1998 match against arch-rival Pakistan was not repeated. This knock of him certainly counts as one of his best. His very presence and experience should have sent jitters around the English camp. Match-winning knocks, which were missing things in his cricket resume, seems to be coming from Master’s blade these days regularly. Yuvi was determined to make a point that he belongs to the big league. He was fluent and confident. One cannot ignore the contribution of Gambhir and Laxman. Only Rahul, the original match-winner, seems to having a very bad run and his performance was very distressing to watch. I hope with God’s grace he will come back with a bang in the next match at Mohali and continue his match-winning ways.

English Performance
England can take heart from the performance of their off-spinner Swann. But their defensive batting had cost them some valuable runs and overs. Had they been little aggressive India could have been forced to face more number of overs and eventually could have crumbled.

Rahul Dravid "WAS" the original match winner.Always people say that sachin had not played many match winning knocks. However whenever Sachin had played a good knock,he had very few support from his teammates. The 1999 Chennai Match was just an instance.People tend to overlook the effort put by sachin when he plays. He always puts in 100% effort.Only recently sachin is receiving support from his team mates. Also Sachin has been involved in 50 matches that india has won
