INDIA’S DOMINANCE IN LANKA

India humiliated Srilanka by beating them 4-1 in the one-day series and then scored a thrilling win in the one-off Twenty20 match.

Indians outperformed Lankans

India outperformed Srilanka in all the departments of the game. They batted well, bowled well and fielded well. On the contrary, Lankans did the opposite except in final one-dayer which they managed to win. If Yuvi and Sehwag performed excellently in one match, then it was turn of Dhoni and Gambhir to excel in another match. If it was batsmen in one game, it would be turn of bowlers to seal the match in another. For instance, Ishant did the job for India in the second one-dayer. Ojha was consistent throughout the series. These are signs of a good team. I hope this team achieves their goal of becoming number one team in one-dayers by end of this year.

Rohit has to come good

Everyone knew that Rohit Sharma is a fine talent. But he was not able to establish himself. One can argue that he was not getting enough opportunities. But that is not an excuse. I hope he does not become another Mohammed Ashraful. He has to emulate Sachin or Rahul and be as consistent as them.

Third Seamer

I think Munaf was sent home in the middle of the tour because of his unsuitability to one-day format (read lack of fielding skill) and hope he is fit and ready for New Zealand tour. Though Praveen Kumar performed well given his limitations, the current form and fitness of other seamers are worrying. What is the current position (form and fitness levels) of RP Singh, Sreesanth, Irfan and others? It is a thing to ponder.

Srilankan team disappoints

Only few months back Srilanka was flying high with their bowling sensation Mendis as their backbone. I think problem with Srilanka was their middle order. There is no big talent that has emerged after Jayawardene and Sangakkara in batting. Dilshan is a decent enough batsman but the rest is not that inspiring. On the fast bowling front also they appear to be little shaky, though they missed Chaminda Vaas (rested) and Lasith Malinga (injured).
