JUMBO BIDS ADIEU

Anil Kumble’s retirement was just around the corner. But the manner in which he was forced to retire (due to injury and bad form coupled with success of Dhoni’s short successful captaincy) was so distressing. A great cricketer like him could have retired with a bang. But “Man Proposes God Disposes”. I hope his retired life is filled with happiness and enjoyment.

Anil Kumble’s Profile
The 100-per-cent cricketer

Anil Kumble will always remembered as a fighter to the core. Like most fans, I myself have criticized him that he doesn’t know how to spin a ball. I think this particular criticism has always irritated him. But ultimately he is India’s most successful bowler and only two players have taken more wickets than him in Test Cricket. His strength has been accuracy of line and length. Many critics had said that he can get wickets only in India. To be frank, during his first half of his career this criticism holds true. But he proved them wrong in his second half of his career. His successes in
Australia and Pakistan in 2003-04 are testimony to the fact that he can get wickets anywhere.

Kumble is quantitatively India’s best match-winner ever (I will give the credit of ‘Qualitatively best match-winner of India ever’ to his country, state and IPL team mate Rahul Dravid). Jumbo displayed aggression in his bowling. He never indulged in showing antics (which has been wrongly interpreted as aggression by some youngsters). He is a perfect role model for young cricketers to emulate. “Talk with your ball not with your mouth” - this is the message he likes to convey to the budding bowlers all over the world. I use this opportunity to salute this wonderful servant of Indian Cricket.
